Meet ''Antarctic Arthur', an exclusive design for Help for Heroes this Christmas by Victoria, a member of our Band of Sisters Fellowship, chosen as part of our annual Christmas card competition. This card is part of our Creative Force range of products, celebrating the creative talent within our community. This illustration features a superbly designed penguin by the name of 'Antarctic Arthur' stood in beautiful confetti style snow. The perfect card for the festive season and a great way to support more people like Victoria and her partner.
Victoria’s partner joined the Light Dragoons in 2008, serving in Afghanistan, and was medically discharged in June 2017 after being diagnosed with PTSD. A self-taught artist, Victoria first got into painting when she visited the art room in the Help for Heroes Recovery Centre, Catterick.
'I was dubious to start off as I didn't think I could draw or paint. But I was pleasantly surprised when I looked at what I created.'Supporting someone with a mental health illness can take its toll, but I found through art I could take my mind off the challenges this can bring.'
'Help for Heroes has been an amazing support for my partner and me. I honestly don't know where we would be today if it wasn't for them. I feel now I have my partner back, and in turn my family unit is getting stronger and stronger, and not forgetting happier. I see a smile on my partner’s face that I haven't seen in a long time.'
