About me: My name is Alex and I am married to Mark who was medically discharged from the Army after 23 years. Mark left the army with both PTSD and physical injuries. We live together in Tidworth with our four children. The Military Social Worker who was involved with Mark’s care recommended Help for Heroes. When we came for our first visit, we were told about the Band of Brothers and Band of Sisters and have since enjoyed many lovely activities run by both.
Being a Band of Sister has shown me that I’m not alone in my situation. It’s given me the opportunity to meet other people who understand the tough times and are completely non-judgmental as they have been there or are going through the same things themselves. It has also given me the chance to get involved in some amazing opportunities and has most importantly made me see how beneficial it can be to sometimes take time for just me.
Getting involved with designing a scarf for Help for Heroes
I thought it would be a really interesting and fun thing to do with some of the other Band of Sisters, and at the same time will hopefully benefit the charity.
I have found the design project interesting and inspirational and I feel very lucky to be a part of it.
How does art and being creative help you: Life can often be quite hectic and stressful and I find that art and being creative can provide much needed ‘me’ time so that I can relax and recharge.
Without Help for Heroes I don’t think that I would have had the strength to keep going for my family.
