Marcia Stephens, Volunteer Coordinator for Newport
At 80 years of age, Marcia is proof that everyone can do their bit to support a cause they believe in. The retired widow of an ex-serviceman with family members who have served, including one grandson who served in Afghanistan and is still serving, Marcia says, “As soon as Help for Heroes was formed, I knew it was for me.”
She’s been volunteering for 7 years as a fundraiser in Wales and says she “loves every minute of it.”
According to Marcia, “Help for Heroes is one large family; comradely, all looking out for each other. Whether helping at events or holding a collection bucket, there is always someone who has served or still serving who will want to have a conversation. I look forward to more years of volunteering and meeting these amazing veterans.”
Marcia started out helping at the H4H shop in Cardiff so was a perfect choice to help select the new Welsh range of clothing which she’s modelling with her daughter Dawn and other Welsh volunteers.
Marcia adds, “Meeting the beneficiaries and their families is very humbling. The injuries mental or physical impacts on the whole family. I realise that they need our help now more than ever”.
